About me
My Ikebana journey began over 15 years ago in Germany with the Ikenobo School, the oldest Ikebana tradition. In 2010, I joined Sogetsu Ikebana, and since 2020, I have been a certified Sogetsu instructor based in Miami. I currently hold the Sogetsu sensei rank of Jonin Sanyo.
My teaching philosophy embraces the vision of Sofu Teshigahara, who saw Ikebana as an art that harmonizes nature and humanity. Beyond mastering the technical aspects, I encourage students to experience the spiritual essence of Ikebana in each arrangement, appreciating its energy and deeper meaning.
I conduct in-person and Zoom Ikebana classes on a regular basis and have participated in several international Ikebana exhibitions, including the book project Music Inspires Ikebana. Some of my notable projects include providing centerpieces for the receptions of the Japanese Emperor’s birthday organized by the Consulate of Miami, creating arrangements for the Japanese Consul’s private residence, designing floral displays for the Asian Festivals in Miami, crafting large-scale arrangements for the Ichimura Garden festivals and demonstrations as well as classes at several Botanical Gardens in Florida and other institutions.

“Stephan guided us in the Ikebana class through the art of Sogetsu Ikebana with profound knowledge, grace and precision. Through each movement of arranging flowers, I felt a profound connection to the principles of balance and mindfulness. Just as I seek to restore balance within the body through acupuncture, I learned to create harmony through the mindful arrangement of flowers and during Stephan's class I found myself entering a state of deep focus and relaxation.”

"The Sogetsu Ikebana class with Stephan not only taught us the fundamentals of Ikebana but also inspired us to think outside the box. We learned to embrace the beauty of minimalism, to appreciate the harmony between space and form, and to infuse our designs with a further sense of natural elegance that captivates the senses. We would wholeheartedly recommend the class to any florist looking to elevate their craft and expand their horizons."
